"Laffing with (and at) older Americans" is the happy domain of Les & May, a humorous comic strip aimed at the 55-and-up segment of the population. It's gag-a-day humor, however, should appeal to comic devotees of all ages. The two main characters are a married couple entering their retirement years. Les Mature has been working for 40 years and enthusiastically embraces retirement. May Mature would gladly continue working but her employer of 20 years has forced her into early retirement. A type-A presonality, she tolerates retirement by throwing herself into household projects "they never had time for", (trying to drag a reluctant Les along) and working as a temp. May is a health and fitness "freak". Her counterpart is addicted to junk food and a sedentary lifestyle, except for golf--on a cart of course! Despite their differences, they are for the most part a loving and devoted couple. They have recently been joined by Dolly, May's fiesty and oversexed mother, and Knorbert, a cranky canine. The strip is posted Monday through Friday at www.lesandmay.com. Larry Lewis has wanted to be a cartoonist almost since his birth in January, 1928. He has been writing and drawing Les & May since May of 2010. He produced the comic strip Campus Clatter which was distributed daily and Sunday for seven years, starting in 1969 by the Newspaper Enterprise Association. A professional cartoonist and commercial artist for 65 years, Lewis' panel, sports, editorial and advertising cartoons have appeared in many regional and national newsapers and magazines. |
